Krokidas & Bluestein LLP is proud to announce the addition of Jonathan Cohen to its nonprofit and tax-exempt organizations practice.
Jonathan Cohen provides legal counsel to nonprofit and tax-exempt organizations on a broad range of corporate matters, from formation and tax qualification through ongoing governance and compliance, to complex transactions and operational matters.
Jon helps nonprofit and tax-exempt clients select the right organizational structure, draft governing documents, and qualify for federal income tax exemption as well as sales and real estate tax exemption. Jon also prepares conflict of interest and conflicts disclosure policies, advises on public charity and federal tax compliance requirements, and guides mission-oriented organizations through mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, and strategic alliances. His work includes fiscal sponsorship arrangements, contract and IP licensing, and counsel on commercial and entrepreneurial activities. On the governance side, Jon advises boards on fiduciary duties, best practices, and legal compliance, and helps clients establish clear policies for volunteers, interns, and staff.
Jon applies hands-on knowledge of board governance, compliance procedures, and revenue diversification he acquired through his previous experience as Deputy Director and Senior Counsel at a nonprofit organization that provides legal services to community organizations.
