"When we started out, the concept of ‘doing well by doing good’ was already part of the business lexicon, and law firms were becoming increasingly involved in pro bono work, though always as an add-on. The challenge was whether you could construct a law firm business model in which ‘doing good’ was not just an add-on, but an integral part of our work. It turns out you can.
"Our private clients value our public work, not just because we tend to share the same values, but because they know that our lawyers' public experience gives them a more valuable perspective on problem solving. Our public and non-profit clients benefit from our private work for its orientation towards outcomes and market driven discipline. So the synergy has worked, and our firm and our clients are stronger for it."
